Paul’s use of Deuteronomy 30 in Romans 10 has puzzled interpreters and led to many divergent readings. In this book, Smothers argues that what Paul has found in Deuteronomy 30:11–14 is a prophetic promise of righteousness which he declares fulfilled in the gospel of the Lord Jesus, the message of the righteousness of faith. By quoting Deuteronomy 30:12–14 in Romans 10 as the content of the message of the righteousness of faith over against Leviticus 18:5 and the righteousness of the law in Romans 10:5–8, Paul proclaims a promise fulfilled in accord with the original meaning of the text written by Moses in Deuteronomy. More precisely, Paul reads Deuteronomy 30:11–14 as an extension of the reality foretold in Deuteronomy 30:1–10, which points forward to the new covenant experience of faith-empowered obedience, or heart circumcision, which includes the internalization of the word of God—the eschatological torah—by the Spirit of God.

Ye Are the Body of Christ presents a deep understanding of the human body to explain biblical concepts pertinent to the body of Christ. When the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 12:27 concludes, Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular, this somehow echoes the words of King David in Psalms 139:14, I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Pauls comparison of the functioning of the natural body to the spiritual one gives insight into the conversations that must have taken place between the apostle of the gospel of uncircumcision and the beloved physician, Luke. In Ye Are the Body of Christ, a book tagged by some as being the first of its kind, the author skillfully uses his deep knowledge of the human body to prove biblical points concerning the Godhead, the meaning of the Crucifixion, and the biblical heart, and to demonstrate the significance of multiple diseases that have plagued humanity throughout the ages. How important is vision, naturally and spiritually speaking? How does our immune system correlate to the spiritual life? Is leprosy in the Bible the same as modern leprosy? What is the hidden message behind HIV/AIDS? Why do we develop cancer? Will we ever find a cure for cancer? What is the body of Christ? How should the body of Christ function? How should we care for the body of Christ? It is amazing how the author, who is both a physician and a minister of the gospel, can effortlessly navigate through his understanding of the human body and the magnificence of the spiritual realm. Once you understand the different aspects covered in Ye Are the Body of Christ, your walk with God will never be the same.

These generic skills will enhance an individualfs ability to access social contexts in which healthy engagement can occur and improve the ability to cope with challenging tasks that are encountered in daily living. The diversity of instructional techniques used to facilitate content mastery include guided and differentiated instruction, modeling, facilitating analysis and reflection of situations involving the appropriate and inappropriate use of key skills, presentation and discussion of positive and negative consequences of each skill, independent learning, and connecting lessons learned to the central idea of the skills being taught. These strategies are arranged in a logical order wherein the material mastered via one technique builds upon prior ones and provides a context for the next one in the instructional sequence. In most cases, it seems highly likely that students who are led through this sequence could not fail to acquire important information about understanding and applying these skills to their own lives. This important new resource will enable professionals to be more effective in assisting students with disabilities in negotiating the many challenges in making the transition from school to the world of adult living.

Secondary School Reading presents carefully thought out, practical strategies for promoting the development of reading skills at the post-elementary level. Practical applications are presented through their relationship to the theoretical conception of the total reading-learning process as they relate to the learner's needs. Reading instruction in the secondary school is essentially different than elementary instruction in the school. The older young people have different needs and interests and utilize different cognitive strategies. This volume presents strategies for older learners which reflects a thorough knowledge of both reading and teaching, as well as many years of experience in teaching this level. Secondary School Reading is a good blend of theoretical constructs and practical application. Its examples offer the teacher many ideas for learning activities. Its appendices direct the reader to many sources of information and teaching materials.

In Behold the Pierced One, Joseph Ratzinger recounts how the composition of a 1981 paper on the Sacred Heart of Jesus had led him to "consider Christology more from the aspect of its spiritual appropriation" than he had done previously. Upon realizing that this same year was the 1300th anniversary of the Third Council of Constantinople, he decided to study the pronouncements of this Council, and came to believe "that the achievement of a spiritual Christology had also been the Council's ultimate goal." Ratzinger's conclusion in attempting to define a spiritual Christology was that "the whole of Christology--our speaking of Christ--is nothing other than the interpretation of his prayer: the entire person of Jesus is contained in his prayer." The spiritual Christology subsequently developed by Ratzinger is one of communio. Indeed, it is one of theosis. Through a personal and ecclesial participation in the prayer of Jesus, exercised in purity of heart, and consummated in the eucharistic celebration, one comes into communion with Jesus Christ and all the members of his Body, so that eventually one can say truly, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (Gal 2:20).
